A message from the ULT Chairman

Every child deserves the best possible education regardless of the sector in which they are educated. As Minister for Education in the late 1980s I saw how the City Technology Colleges were outstandingly successful in giving children in inner cities an excellent education. When the Government decided to build on this idea with their City Academy Programme, we agreed that we should use our skills to run schools which would help those most in need. We set up ULT to do so.

ULT is building bridges between the private and public sectors, harnessing the strengths of each to create an imaginative answer to education - the academies. These are independent co-educational secondary schools. Each is designed and equipped to the best modern standards and entry is free. Our intake is strictly non selective, depending on location and siblings as our entry criteria. Many of our students live in socially and economically deprived areas. Our academies offer all students new opportunities to thrive and fulfil their potential.

All our students are nurtured and supported. They are given the opportunity to learn in a caring and protective environment, rich in cultural diversity. Our academies aim to bring out the best in students, staff, parents and the wider community. They are a force for improvement, bringing new hope and opportunity to thousands of young people across the UK.
