Why choose boarding at UCST schools

Boarders throughout the UK and the rest of the world make our schools their home and us their family. Six of our independent schools offer boarding.

Our boarders gain firsthand experience of community life ‘at home' in the boarding house in a way which greatly enhances their overall scholastic experience and personal growth.

Boarding at our schools presents significant advantages:

  • Learning to live together and support one another, developing deep friendships that often last a lifetime.
  • Close care is our approach and this is particularly so in boarding. From help with homework to personal advice and guidance, boarding students are extremely well looked after. Most of our highly committed boarding staff live on site and undertake training approved by the Boarding Schools Association.
  • An extensive range of extra-curricular activities.
  • A mix of day and boarding pupils as well as UK and international children at the school. Our day pupils benefit from the wide range of activities of a boarding school and our boarders benefit from daily contact with the local community.
  • Longer than average holidays, thus enabling the student to return home to their family and friends for good periods of time.
  • A blending of traditional and contemporary environments. Our boarders benefit from both the historic links our schools have with their local communities - such as Lincoln Minster School with Lincoln Cathedral; Ashford School with the city of Canterbury; Bramcote Lorne with Sherwood Forest and Gamston Wood, an ancient parish wood noted in the Domesday Book; and Hampshire Collegiate School with Florence Nightingale's ancestral home - as well as their modern boarding accommodation and facilities.
