Edward Gould appointed Chairman of ULT
16 July 2010
Lord Carey, Chairman of the United Church Schools Trust, today announced that the Board has appointed Edward Gould as Chairman of the United Learning Trust (ULT).
Mr Gould had been Acting Chairman since the beginning of 2010 when Dame Angela Rumbold stood down for health reasons. Dame Angela passed away in June.
After graduating from St Edmund Hall, Oxford, Mr Gould spent his career in education and was Master of Marlborough College until 2004. He is an Honorary Associate Member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference and was its Chairman in 2002. He has been a Board Member of ULT since 2004.
Announcing his appointment, Lord Carey said: “The Board was unanimous in its support for Edward as Chairman and we welcome him to the substantive post. He will be an excellent advocate for ULT and Chairman of the Board. We have worked closely together over the past year and I look forward to continuing this relationship over the coming years.”
Edward Gould said: “I am delighted to become Chairman of ULT having been a Board member for six years. ULT’s journey as an organisation to date has been spectacular and I pay tribute to my predecessor Dame Angela Rumbold for her vision and commitment.
“With a new government and the growth of the Academies Programme underway, the next stage in ULT’s development will be equally exciting and I look forward to working with colleagues in advancing our provision for educating children in some of the most deprived areas in the country.
“As Acting Chairman, I have enjoyed meeting many of the staff and students of our 17 academies and have been struck by their aspiration and enthusiasm for making each of their communities a better place to live and work.”
